  1. I thank the author for this blog.
My great grandfather was Ned Wallace of 23 Island Rd, Private 7125 in the 1st Batt RMF. He was assumed to have died on 22 March 1918 during the second day of the Spring Offensive.
Before he left to fight at the front he took his 6 children to Mass.
He wrote them a letter telling them to stick together.
His widow Bridget lost their 12 year old daughter May later in 1918, eventually she moved to Manchester with the younger 3 children approximately 1923, whilst the 2 older boys moved to the US via Canada.
